Riviere-au-Renard - day 22 and 23

After some much needed sleep in the outer harbour we spent some time cleaning the boat and then pulled up anchor to head in to the marina. Riviere au Renard turned out to be a lovely little town. It was founded more than 200 years ago as a fishing outpost and fishing is still the main industry. There was a large and seemingly very active fleet of fishing boats in the harbour as well as a fish processing plant. For the size of the town there was a surprisingly good selection of restaurant options, I think because it's a bit of a hub for people exploring the Gaspe region. The first night we decided to have dinner at the local microbrewery which was only a couple of blocks away from the marina. Aria opted for the pulled pork poutine while Jesse and I split a fish sample platter. It was delicious and had a little bit of everything. The salt cod was particularlly interesting to try since I've always wondered what it tastes like while the marinated turbot and the seasoned smoked salmon were the most delicious.

When we got back to the marina there was live music and the food trucks were still open so we got some ice cream and listened to the band while we checked out the view from the observation tower. It was full of informational plaques about the history of the town which I found really interesting. We spent our second day there exploring the beach and boardwalk, finding a geocache and getting some smoked fish from one of the fish markets located right on the wharf beside the marina. It was a very relaxing couple of days and was one of our favourite stops so far.
