We were one of the last boats to leave the dock in the morning, which is kind of nice because we tend to motor slow (5.5 to 6 knots), and so end up getting passed by everyone. I guess it makes sense to try and go as far as you can each day, but we've been taking it pretty easy.
We had some good downwind winds again today and so I sailed on the genoa again for a good portion of the sail today. I'm enjoying the jybing down through these narrow and winding channels. You have to stay on your toes, but it is fun floating silently through the wilderness.
We sailed out into the Albemarle Sound and then enjoyed some relaxing downwind sailing. Winds had dropped down so we raised the main and headed across under full sails. After making our way across, we snaked into the entrance of Alligator River and put our sails away before reaching the bridge there. We called ahead and this swing bridge opens on demand. Very friendly, and we made our way through as it opened for us right when we got there.
We motored a little ways after that and headed off to the east side of Alligator River to anchor. It was a really beautiful spot, and nicely protected from the wind out of the east. It's not a very protected place to anchor but in lightish winds and from the east it was no problem at all. Also we had a forecast for a dead calm overnight, so really you can anchor just about anywhere in weather like that.
Beautiful sunset, relaxed for the evening and then off to bed. Tomorrow is a long motor down a very long canal.
