Georgetown to Calabash Bay, Long Island - day 198

Today we had some nice winds to make our way toward Long Island. We finally heading out of Georgetown and then back up the Exumas and back over to Rock Sound Eleuthera as our destination to meet up with family there. But since the winds are good for heading to Long Island, we are going to jump over there first and then head back north up the Exumas.

We had to say goodbye to our friends on Karen Margarette as they were still waiting for a some parts to arrive in Georgetown. It was kind of sad one as this will be the last time we see them as they head south and then back across the Atlantic, while we are going back north.

We pulled up anchor and motored out of the mooring field, and then put up full sails and spent the morning tacking upwind from Georgetown to the north channel. It was a really fun upwind sail, being able to see exactly where you need to tack as it shallows up just by the water colour makes it relatively easy. But it was some tight tacking to make it out that way, and Theone was complaining as I had her doing most of the winching, and it does get to be a lot after 17 tacks...

Then we had nice winds for a pretty straight upwind shot to the north end of Long Island. We managed to sail right in through the reef as we had great light to see what was going on, and a good wind angle to slip in there. Tons of room to anchor up there so we found a place as close to shore as we felt comfortable with the depths, and called it a day.

Really nice to be out sailing again as it had been a while. I was certainly ready for it. 30 NM overall which is kind of the sweet spot for a good say of sailing I'd say.

We are going to spend a couple days here, and then we'll look for some winds to move back up the Exumas towards Eleuthera again. We were considering jumping over to Cat Island from here (and maybe Conception) but we have some friends we'd like to meet up with yet in the Exumas, and they are on their way south so I think we'll probably bump into them on our way up.
