Point Judith to Block Island - day 72

It was supposed to be a sunny day but ended up being mainly cloudy. You can really tell it's fall now. Even so, because the water here is so much warmer then on the other side of the Gulf of Maine, the boat stays warmer then it did in Nova Scotia in August.

We left the anchorage around 9 because we wanted to get in before 11 am when the winds were supposed to pick up. It was a nice short 11 NM sail to Block Island. Because it's out of season there were lots of mooring balls to choose from. Apparently in season there are line ups of boats waiting for any ball to become available.

Our plan for the day was to rent bikes so we could check out some of the island sights. After some confusion about where we could get bikes we got it sorted out and set off. It was really nice to go for a bike ride and despite it threatening to rain all day we only got sprinkled on.

Our favourite stop was the Labyrinth, a stone walk way at the top of a hill designed to be very meditative and it was exactly that, until the Boy Scout troupe showed up. We should have taken some pictures but it was a dreary grey day and frankly none of us felt like getting the camera out.

After some more sight seeing we got dinner and headed back to the boat. It was Felix's birthday and Aria was really bummed that she couldn't be there. Especially because he was having a VR party. She had to settle for a video call which was really nice. My whole family was there for his birthday. I can't believe how big the little ones are getting! As nice as it was to talk to everyone it also left us feeling a little homesick wishing we could be there with them.

We're all pretty tired so we're going to try to do smaller hops for the next little while as we work our way down Long Island Sound.
