We woke up a little late in the morning after the windy night. Much calmer the next day, and everyone seemed to have left the anchorage very early in the morning. That was a good sign the Belt Line Bridge was operating again, so that was good. We monitored the VHF and there was some talk about them closing it for more maintenance at 10am, so we forced ourselves to get going despite being so tired.
We raised anchor and motored down the river and sure enough the bridge was still open, and we passed under. Lots of funny chatter on the VHF with people happy to get through. I think it was only down for a day, but people seem to get pretty antsy when something stands in their way.
Lots of interesting things to see along the shore on this part of the ICW. Lots of interesting industry and military stuff going on around here.
We didn't end up going very far today, and found a spot to tie up at free dock by Great Bridge. This is the battlefield of a battle from the early days of the American Revolutionary War. There was a museum there right by the docks but we didn't make it there to visit unfortunately.
The grounds at the area are very beautiful with some walking trails around the area. It was nice to be tied up at the dock. A boat came in that docked in front of us who also came from Kingston. Small world. We had actually chatted with them briefly at anchor in Jackson Creek as well.
We had a nice evening and got a good sleep.
