It had been a busy week so, when we moved back onto the boat we were happy to spend a few quiet days just doing some work / school and continuing to stash away more provisions. We originally planned to head to the Exumas on Saturday but really heavy winds were forecast for Monday so we decided to stay put and ride them out in the protection of Rock Sound. While we were hanging out waiting on the weather we met up with another family who was anchored near us. We played some board games, ate some cookies and had a lovely afternoon.
On Monday as predicted the weather started to turn. It was rainy and the wind started to pick up as the day wore on. I went to shore one last time, mostly to get carrot cake from the hardware store. The lady who runs the cash also sells home baked goods and her carrot cake was amazing.
Just before sunset we decided to make the short hop across the bay to be more protected from the swell that was likely to build up since the wind was forecast to clock around and pick up significantly early the next morning. Of course it started to rain just as we were pulling up anchor but, Aria took the helm and I got to hide below staying warm and dry this time.
The next morning was intense. It started out windy and then we got hit with a fairly big squall, driving rain, lightning and really strong winds. We rode it out fine though and by evening things had started to calm down.
Wednesday morning we woke up to clear skies and practically no wind. We were hoping to sail across Exuma sound to Staniel Cay to meet up with our friends on Atlas VII but we quickly squashed that plan since the light winds meant we would have had to motor the whole way. Instead we sailed slowly for 13NM and dropped anchor in front of the resort at Cape Eleuthera. We did some dingy sailing and Aria and I cleaned the bottom of the boat which had some growth on it after spending two weeks sitting still.
We'll plan to head out tomorrow with some better winds.
