We talked to Zimmerman's boatyard, and made a plan to get in there. Because of tides we needed to get into the travel lift at a specific time so that we'd be at high tide with little current. This resulted in us needing to be there at 6am, so we planned to get there the day before and dock up at the yard.
So we left Wrightsville beach for a 35NM sail. We needed to time getting there around 5pm to be at high tide so we could get into the dock. It's soft mud there, and as long as we got onto the dock we could sink into the mud a bit at the tide went out.
We left early, giving ourselves lots of time to make it, which worked out well. We made good time to begin with and then in order to get in at 5pm, we needed to slow it down, so we just kept on going under sail in some light winds. It's quite beautiful sailing along peacefully through the channel. Winds eventually ran out and we put the sails away shortly before reaching the yard. Nice to be able to sail most of the way today.
We easily got in and docked up. Depth read 7 feet at high tide, which is actually like 8 and a bit feet (because our depth sounder reads from where it is, a foot down in the water). The tide there was 4.5 feet, so that meant we'd be a couple feet in the mud. Later at night I checked, and we were certainly in the mud, but it wasn't too bad, still floating for the most part.
To bed early as we needed to be up at 6am for the next high tide in order to get into the travel lift and up onto the hard.
