Since heavy winds were predicted for Friday evening and Black Point was 50 NM from Georgetown we wanted to get at least halfway on Thursday just in case the winds filled in earlier than predicted. We had originally planned to head to Leaf Cay to check out some rock iguanas but we ended up instead joining the other kids boats in heading to Rudder Cut Cay.
We arrived at Rudder Cut around 1pm just before slack tide. Jesse had more work to do so he stayed aboard while Aria and I checked out the sights. The island is private and owned by David Copperfield. Some years ago he installed an underwater statue of a mermaid playing a piano so that is where Aria and I headed first. The statue was actually pretty cool, corals have started growing on it and there were little fish all around.
After the statue we headed over to a little cave on the shore line. Just outside the cave were some very tame sea turtles. We snorkeled with them for quite some time. They seemed totally unphased by all the attention and we were able to get some pretty cool shots of them with the underwater camera.
After all of the sight seeing, some of our friends decided that Jesse needed to take a break and invited us over for a drink. We spent a lovely evening visiting with them and then headed back to Lei Line for another early night, so we would be ready to make the final push to Georgetown early the next morning.
