Woke up to a parade of fishing boats going out in the morning. This leaves a bit of wake in the anchorage in the morning, and so things were a bit rolly. But I was tired and after understanding what was going on was fast back asleep.
Just a little hop today from our first anchorage after crossing to Maine, into a tight little area near the main dock for Isle au Haut. Just a short 3.4NM motor away from where we were anchored. We picked up a mooring ball where you leave the money in a little bottle attached to the mooring. This worked great, and we rowed into the island to get some groceries at the little store on the island.
I rowed the groceries back to the boat, and then we went on a hike in Acadian National Park which is about 1500 feet from the main landing area. There are some quite extensive hiking trails in the park, and unfortunately we didn't have enough time to really get anywhere as daylight was running out, so we ended up hiking about 2km in, and then back out. Really wonderful trails, but we didn't make it to the mountain peak which was a little disappointing. But we did get back to the boat before sunset which is probably better than hiking back in the dark.
Isle Au Haut is really beautiful and I wish we had more time here. The island is named by Samual de Champlain, which is a fun little fact.
