We woke up to a rather large swell and strong north west winds in front of Coopers Town. It was a pretty uncomfortable morning, so we got underway quickly after waking up.
Raising anchor was a real challenge here, and I had to bust out some gloves. We were in some deeper waters (20 feet!) and the swell made it hard to hold onto the chain. But after some struggling we got the anchor up, and sailed off anchor right into the wind with a double reefed main.
Nothing to crazy wind wise, and only 17NM, but this was a challenging sail for some reason. It was rather gusty and maybe we are just getting soft. On the last tack we just coasted into anchor on the double reefed main alone as it had really started to gust up.
There isn't great protection in this area for north east winds, and we decided our best bet was the east end of Pensocola Cay. There are some bluffs there that we thought might protect from the wind. We did find some protection anchored up close to the cliffs there, and the holding seemed to be good.
And so we could finally relax. The anchorage was beautiful. And although we got a little swell wrapping around the island, it wasn't bad and seemingly flat form where we'd been all day.
