Woke up early again (every day?) in order to try and catch as much of the favourable current. Long Island Sound has more current than we had expected, and it makes some sense to try to use it to your advantage.
Nice easy start to the day, downwind on an easy tack. Wind picked up some and was mostly right behind us, so we gybed downwind making our way to our destination. The current started working against us later into the day, but nothing too bad. Had a super friendly encounter with a large trawler as well. Often these speed along in front of us, leaving us with a large wake to pound through, but this friendly guy slowed down and stopped to let us cut in front and even gave us a friendly "Hello, wonderful day for a sail" on his loudspeaker. We had to agree, it was a beautiful day.
This was one of the first days in the past week with some sun, and it was quite glorious. First day really sailing in Long Island Sound, and we quite enjoyed it. It is nice being out of the ocean swell.
Theone had found a well reviewed little marina in Westbrook Connecticut named Harry's Marina, up a rather narrow channel. A sailboat looks to have run aground as we came into the channel. Not much we could do for him, but it looked like he was making his way off in reverse. We made it up the channel ok without going around thankfully, and we were welcomed to our slip.
Harry's Marina looks to be a super well run marina. Very clean, well kept grounds and the bathrooms and showers were older, but crazy clean and well kept. Very nice to see!
I did some maintenance on the boat, dried out the lockers and hopefully fixed the anchor locker leak that happens in crazy waves. We had dampness in our forward lockers that we thought was condensation (and part of it probably was) but I suspect more of it was this leak. Anyways hopefully that is now fixed. After doing all that and getting the boat back in order, it was time for sleep. Another early morning tomorrow!
