Gale Creek to Pungo Creek - day 284

Theone's ear had been hurting the past couple of days, and although she was hopeful it would get better on it's own, it was only getting worse. We realized we were going to need to get to somewhere so she could see a doctor, and Belhaven was the next logical stop.

Aria was forced on deck to help with sailing today since Theone was out of commission, and with her teacher out sick she was available to work.

We sailed off anchor and managed to sail up the small channel. It was slow going with kind of gusty winds in the narrow channel, but we made it through pretty smoothly. We did have to power through the last tiny section of the channel as it was directly upwind and tacking up through the 180 foot wide channel is hard work at the best of times. The 5 minute motor made short work of it though, and then we were able to sail the Pamlico River portion with nice following winds.

It was a great sail, and in the end we decided to duck into Pungo Creek to anchor as it was blowing right into Belhaven and we could just jump over there the next morning. So we came into Pungo Creek and dropped anchor in some nice calm waters. Tomorrow we'll head into Belhaven.
