Lynyard Cay to Parrot Cays - day 250

Had a bit of a lazy morning before getting underway today. We planned a little 20NM sail up to Hope Town. Nice light winds, but enough to sail, so we raised our full main and sailed off anchor and floated out of the anchorage and due north. Had some fun snaking our way up through the channels.

About half way we did some calculations and realized we weren't going to make it in to Hope Town at high tide if we continued on floating about, and we did really want to get into Hope Town. So we dropped sails and went along under motor the rest of the way.

Getting into Hope Town for us is a bit tricky because it's shallow and the entrance is really only passable for us with a 6 foot draft at high tide. But we were at high tide, and we had no issues making it in. Unfortunately though, every ball in there was taken it seems, and after doing our rounds trying to find a ball, we finally had to give up and make our way back out.

Normally this would have been no big deal, but there were some pretty gnarly looking thunderstorms brewing, and we were kind of betting on picking up a mooring ball. Coming out of the harbour the thunder and lightning was starting behind us which is always a bit stressful. We motored quickly out and decided to drop anchor just outside at Parrot Cays where there was just enough depth to accommodate us. At least 10 inches under the keel at low tide...

We got the anchor down and secured just in time to sit back and watch the lightning roll in. Aria and I wrote a tongue in cheek song about there not being any Hope in Hope Town and we called it a night. A bit disappointing all and all, but at least the storms ended up mostly missing us and we got a nice fresh water rinse.
