It was time for us to move on again. We had a beautiful day with some nice light winds, so we sailed off anchor and headed towards Current Cut, where you can cut through into the Bight of Eleuthera. It's called Current Cut, because as you can imagine, the current is pretty strong through there. There are a lot of conflicting reports of when is the best time to transit, so I suspect it changes due to a lot of factors. We decided to aim for 1.5 hours after high tide in Nassau, which seemed to be about the average of what poeple were reporting. This worked out well, and we only had about 1 knot of current with us as we went through, which was all nice and easy.
After coming through the cut we headed west towards the Glass Window Bridge. We anchored up there, not the best holding in kind of a soft sand but good enough. We went ashore to the beach and then hiked over to the Atlantic side where we found a spot called the Queens Baths. It's a very beautiful spot where the ocean seems to have carved out a big part of the rocky cliff, and there are a bunch of tidle pools. At high tide you can't get in there, but at low tide you can down in there and it's a very breathtaking view. Even more so with the swell from the Atlantic crashing up onto the rocks with the giant roar of huge waves. You can really feel the power of the ocean pounding into the cliffs. We spent quite a while just soaking in the view and the sounds. But then finally had to head back as the sun was setting.
We didn't get a chance to go check out the Glass Window Bridge up close, we only saw it as we were coming into anchor. I really wanted to dingy over there, but sadly there are only so many hours in the day.
Coming back to the boat, we were treated to another beautiful sunset. The water was flat clam and beautiful. We had plans to move and anchor at Mutton Fish Point about a mile away, but because it was so calm we figured we'd just stay put where we were. This was a fine idea until about 2am when we started getting large waves coming down the bight as the winds were increasing. I couldn't sleep and eventually I finally called uncle and pulled up anchor and moved to the other anchorage in the middle of the night. This was annoying but it was much more protected there and I was then able to get a good sleep.
A very long and busy day. Tomorrow we plan to head down to Hatchet Bay Harbour to get some protection from some very shifty winds in the forecast.
