Oswego Marina to Bath Ontario - day 340 and 341

This is it, coming to the end of our trip!

We woke up early Monday and headed over to the mast dock at the Oswego Marina around 9am. Mast went up smoothly and we got everything connected and promptly went back to our slip to do all the detailed work of tuning the rig, and bending on sails. It was a very efficient operation and well organized at the Oswego Marina. This was a very hot day again, but we managed to get everything together, sails on, and did a big wash down of the boat now that the decks were all cleared off. Looking once again like a proper sailboat.

We went for a short hike back over to the grounds at Fort Ontario to catch some of the cooler breeze coming off the lake, and to finally fly this kite I got back in Beaufort. It was a nice afternoon after a busy morning.

For dinner we decided to pick up sushi at a placed called The Fuse, that ended up being really really good. We were quite hungry which helps, but this was some of the best sushi we have had in a very long time.

Weather was still looking perfect for crossing the lake tomorrow, so we got to bed after some showers so we'd be fresh for the long sail.

I helped a solo sailor we'd bumped into a few times through the canal with some issues he was having with his furler in the morning, and after getting that sorted out, we pushed off the dock and headed out. We hoisted the full main inside the break water, quickly realized that was a bit much, and went down to a double reef. With that excitement out of the way we nicely underway on a close reach straight across the lake. Winds did taper a little as we got offshore and we put full main back up, but then it was a really nice and easy, fast sail straight across. It was also nice being back on the lake, fresh water splashing up on the deck, and the nice cool breeze out on the lake. It was another hot day, but just perfect out on the water.

We passed on the west side of Main Duck Island, slipped through the shipping channel and by a large ship, and then headed down through the gap. We were greeted by a nice tall ship sailing outbound that was beautiful to see, and next thing we knew we rounding Amherst Island and heading downwind to Bath.

First time back in the same slip we left 341 days ago, and it was nice to be back to somewhere familiar again. We met a few friends of ours on the dock as we came in, and then we had some family stop in to greet us as well. We still had to check in with customs and that ended up taking some time, but we got it all sorted and just like that we are back home!

6100NM, 341 days...
