We spent 2 nights in Prentice Creek. Fist night we were all alone, but second night a beautiful Tartan 3700 (a boat we really like) and a small motor cruiser anchored up with as well. We decided to make a trip across the inlet to visit Hughlett Point Natural Area Preserve. We rigged up the dingy for sailing and all three of us sailed over. It's a crowed dingy sailing with three people in it, but it worked pretty good. We did bump some sand bars with the daggerboard on our way over, a reminder to keep the big boat in the marked channels...
The hiking was quite beautiful along the beach, and then we took a hiking trail loop around and through the forest. We saw a couple very tame deer while hiking through the forest which was neat.
We hiked the beach loop back and had to cross a little inlet as the tide was rising. Nothing to bad though. Got back and set sail back to the boat in the dingy, but we ran out of wind half way back, and had to row the rest of the way back.
The next morning was our 100th day out, which is kind of neat. We had some great winds and were able to sail off anchor and out the channel back into the Chesapeake. The winds were great for downwind, and since it was calm overnight the bay was pretty smooth. The wind kept building and we got a little overpowered and came in on just the mainsail towards Deltaville (Jackson Creek). After we got in near the entrance we got some protection so putting away the main was nice and easy with the protection of land. The channel into the creek is very narrow, but well marked and we made it in without any problems.
It was a busy anchorage with a lot of boats already in there, but we found a bit of space near the end of the creek and dropped the anchor. It was a short 18NM sail, and even though we left late morning, we got in early afternoon which was nice. We went ashore for dinner at the restaurant which was super nice after being at anchor for the past many days. I had the most delicious shrimp and grits, and the girls were craving burgers which were also delicious looking.
A nice evening, and glad to be anchored securely in the bay while the wind out there is blowing.
