We spent 2 nights in Smith Creek which was nice. It was a beautiful little anchorage I think we would have gladly spent more time at. We spent the second day there doing work, and Aria did her school day on the little beach along the bay. Everyone got some practice in rowing around the little bay as well. Lots of fish, birds, oysters, crabs here to see.
The next morning I woke up early and finished cleaning up the engine from our coolant leak, and stuck on an extra rubber seal on the coolant pipe at the top of the engine that was leaking. I think having the extra seal on there might be enough to keep the main seal in place and hopefully stop that from coming loose and leaking yet again. I'm tired of cleaning up coolant, so hopefully this works!
We got everything packed up and all stowed, dingy on deck and ready for a windy day. Forecast was 20 knots gusting up to 27 knots. This is a lot of wind for us, but all downwind today. We got out of the tiny bay we were in, and put up just the genoa to run downwind. This went quite well to start, but the winds did build considerable along with the waves. This is was the first bit of serious sailing we'd done in a while. We reefed up the genoa and at one point were surfing downwind with just a small scrap of it exposed. It was a fast downwind sail and directly to our destination. We did get passed by a 43 foot J-Boat doing 10 knots downwind, also reefed up with just a mainsail up going along nicely.
35NM sail today, and happy to get in out of the big waves. We were looking to anchor near Hughlett Point where there is a nature reserve, but it was a bit to windy in the main channel to anchor, so we tucked into Prentice Creek right nearby that was very well protected.
Nice dinner, practised some guitar, and I think it will be an early bedtime tonight.
