Rainbow Cay to Egg Island - day 248

Our plan today was to make our way to Current Cut (a narrow bit where as the name implies, the current gets quite strong with the tides), and then head over to Egg Island to anchor for the night before heading north across Providence Channel to The Abacos.

The wind was suppose to be nice, but we woke up to basically zero wind. No matter since we had all day, so we put up sails, weighed anchor and floated out of the anchorage at around one knot.

About an hour later the wind filled in nicely and we were making good way. We were going to anchor at Current Cut to wait for slack, but as we got there and saw other people making the passage mid tide, we decided to give it a go. It was a low tide that day, so I think that contributed to our success.

It's a bit shallow on the south side, but we got through that part ok, and then it was just a matter of motoring against 2.5 knots or so of current. The wind didn't seem to cause any kind of wave action here, so just little current ripples all the way through. It's slow going with current against you, but it's a short distance and then you are through. We put sails back up, and finished sailing over to Egg Island.

Egg Island is not exactly a big anchorage, and we did expect to see some boats here as the weather was looking good for the crossing north. But there was 20+ boats by the time we got there, and then we counted over 35 by the time we went to bed. It was a tight anchorage, but it seems like everyone managed to fit ok. We did have to anchor in 20 feet which is pretty deep here in the Bahamas, but other than that it was easy.

We had a nice dinner, got the boat all cleaned up and ready to go for tomorrow morning, and got to bed nice and early.
