Tuffin Island to Shelter Cove - day 40 and 41

We woke up to a nice calm anchorage at Tuffin Island, with a bit of fog, but it seemed to be clearing. We got ready to depart and the fog had cleared up, so we motored out of the anchorage and then put up sails on some nice light winds. Wind direction was favourable to begin, but slowly came around south west so we ended up beating into it for most of the way. We had a couple possible stops planned, but decided to make the extra way today to Shelter Cove. It looked super protected (as the name implies), and there was some higher winds and ugly weather the next day so it seemed like a good place to hold up in.

After a long day of tacking upwind, we finally got to the cove and made our way to anchor. There was one super large boat (you could see it's mast well above all the trees before even getting into the cove), and two other smaller boats. We easily anchored and enjoyed the calmness of anchor for the evening.

Next day was calling for gusty winds and rain, so we stayed at anchor again for the next night as well. The two smaller boats left in the afternoon, so it was just us and this 75 foot vessel in the anchorage. We rowed ashore and went for a hike on the nearby trail. I guess this whole island chain we are anchored on is crown land, and there is a nice trail that goes from the main road out past the anchorage to a couple of really nice beaches. We hiked down around the anchorage to the beaches and enjoyed the view. Unfortunately it was pretty cold so swimming wasn't really an appealing idea, but it would have been great swimming here in warmer weather. The water was crystal clear.

We hiked back and got back to the boat before the rain hit, and the rest of the evening we spent inside while the boat got a nice freshwater rinse. Winds clocked around to the north exactly as predicted late in the evening. We were hopeful those winds would stay to make our way the next morning.
