Dyckman Landing to Indian Point - day 316 to 318

We had a nice couple of days Dyckman Landing. The current here is quite strong so we had to time our rowing into the marina to make it easy. Also lots of J/80's on balls here and there must be an active racing community. We saw quite a few of them out practicing while we were there which was lots of fun to watch.

We noticed a castle like building peaking up above the trees directly in front of where we were moored and looking it up google maps, found it was the Met Cloisters a very neat looking building showcasing medieval art. So we hiked up there and spent the afternoon there which was a lot of fun. I quite like these smaller sized museums, and the artwork was quite beautiful. The wooden sculptures were something else and the courtyards were just beautiful too.

After the museum we went downtown and experienced the hustle and bustle. We picked up pizza at neat little but, very busy, pizza shop and took it back to the boat. Delicious.

After three nights on the ball there, we were on the move north again. We put up sail, and slipped the mooring lines and had a pretty spirited sail downwind. Quite a windy day, and as the wind came around more on the nose during the day we reefed up the main. In kind of the perfect sailing day way, the wind started to die out just as we were coming up to our anchorage, and so we drifted around the last bend in the Hudson, put the sails away and set the anchor in a dead calm.

We anchored directly across from the Indian Point Nuclear Plant, which was recently de-commissioned. It used to provide 25% of New York City's power needs, now replaced by three gas fired power plants. It was a super quite anchorage, and I had a little row around the shore before dinner which was nice.

We'll continue on north tomorrow morning.
