finishing the pt11

Alright, last post on this PT-11 build. This past couple of weeks has been a real push to get this done for our trip. I didn't do the best job at documenting the last bits, but here is what I do have...

First we installed the foot braces, ore locks, and back seat braces. These had a couple coat of epoxy earlier, and so they were templated and glued into position first, then taped off and a third coat of expoy applied after gluing.

Next everything was sanded down and not many picutres of this, but the inside surfaces were coated with epifanes 2 part poly-urethane clear coat. This was a ton of work, sanding, de-dusting, and then applying. I had similar problems with air bubbles forming while coating, but I tried tipping with a foam brush and this seemed to help a lot. Because of time, I did three coats without sanding in between. It came out pretty good, certinaly not perfect, and I wish I had more time to sand and do a final coat. But I can alwyas do more maintenance coats in the future, and you can do regular varnish over the 2-part which I may end up doing in the future.

And then finally I installed all the gasketing, gudgens for the rudder, oar locks, eye hooks for tie downs, etc. This is kind of glossed over, but this was many full days of work in a large push to get it completed.

Also a big part of the finishing was installing the bumper. This seemed daunting but ending up going pretty smoothly, but did take the better part of a full day.

And finally we launched it, rowed around the bay, and the sailed it a short way down to the marina to load onto our boat. No photos becuase I didn't think to, and we did it all in a bit of a mad rush. It's been a crazy push the last couple of weeks, but it's nice to finally see it floating. I unfortunatley didn't do a very good job keeping track of build time, but I've been working on it for about 7 months nearly every day. I'd estimate somewhere around 400 hours or more. I've certainly learned a ton building it, and I'm looking forward to putting it to use now!
