We had a nice few days in Hatchet Bay, very well protected from some of the winds we were getting. It was nice to be at a super flat anchorage this time.
Our first day at Hatchet Bay we got invited to the beach with a couple of the other boats there. We hiked on over to the Atlantic side which was a bit of a hike, but were treated to a very beautiful sand beach. The waves coming in from the ocean were unfortunately too large to allow us to swim there, but it was fun to play in the surf a bit.
Our second day Theone and Aria hiked up to the laundromat, and I went and got water and some groceries in town. I managed to drop a 5 gallon water jug into the ocean, but thankfully it floated so I was able to quickly recover it and get it back onto the boat. Nice to have our water tanks all topped off again. We enjoyed some beers and food at the Boaters Haven with our friends in the evening.
Our third day we did more re-provisioning in Hatchet Bay. There is a nice little grocery store in the town there which although was small was surprisingly well stocked and reasonably priced.
And our last day I don't think we did very much. We mostly just chilled on the boat through the gusty winds. We were invited over for cocktails on a Little Harbour 62 in the evening. A very beautiful older boat. It's always a joy to get on these boats just to see them. I don't know how people manage to maintain all the systems on boats like that, but they are just so beautiful it almost seems worth it.
And then finally it was time to continue on. We made plans to set sail pretty early and take the light winds for a sail all the way down to Rock Sound. We came out of the anchorage, put up sails, and then had a wonderful beam reach sail all the way down the sound. It was really one of those perfect wind days for us again. We sailed right down and into the anchorage at Rock Sound, and anchored up beside our Danish friends. We went ashore shortly after getting in, and met up with everyone at a fund raiser at a church. They had some great food there and we got some really good bbq'd chicken. One of the little guys from the Danish boat ended up winning a full bicycle in the raffle draw, which he was very excited about, but thankfully was able to trade it back in for some other prizes (and the promise of a new bike when they got back home), as there is not a lot of room for a bike on a sailboat.
Weather is looking good for a passage to the Exumas soon, so we may not be here long.
