Today was a down day as we booked two nights at the marina here. We finally did some more detailed planning on the next leg of the trip and figured out how to traverse this next part of the river.
As the tide comes in and our it creates some really interesting currents that move in and out with the tide. These are minor at Quebec city, but can get up to 9 knots in places as you head out to sea. These are obviously important to plan around as a vessel that only does 6 knots. This means timing departure around the tides depending on where your destination is. Unfortunately we didn't really look closely enough at the tide charts before we got here, and in terms of timing we'd have ended up needing to leave at midnight to catch the morning tide, or leave so late in the day that we'd be arriving at our next stop in the dark, both of which aren't ideal. So we've decided to wait a couple more nights to get a more favorable time to leave (high tide drifts ~1 hour each day). This means hanging out in Quebec city for a couple more days, which ultimately has just been very nice.
So we'll spend this night at the marina yet, tomorrow we are just going to go anchor outside of the marina, and then plan for a very early departure on Friday (Aug 2nd) for a 70 nautical mile trip riding the current.
