Lunenburg to Carters Beach - day 49

It looks like we are going to be getting some weather on Saturday, so we decided to leave early and try and make a big hop to get us towards Shelburne where we hope to hold over for the weather and plan our next steps either making the jump to Maine, or continuing on towards Yarmouth. Kind of all depends on the weather we are provided.

So we left rather early to give ourselves time today. Easy start to the day off the mooring ball, and then motor out of the bay from Lunenburg in zero winds. I went back to sleep for a couple more hours while we motored along, and then got up much more rested while we made the turn down the coast. Eventually the winds picked up enough to sail, so I hoisted the mainsail and put out the genoa, and pointed off course, because the wind was of course largely on the nose. But the winds were great and the sea state nice, so it was all worth it. We sailed along nice tacking upwind towards our destination.

Theone and Aria did some teaching and school work while underway. The times for school will need to be rather flexible as the sailing conditions permit.

The winds held up really nice, and eventually we single reefed, and the double reefed, and again spent most of the day sailing with the full genoa and double reefed main. As we got in near the anchorage winds lightened up a bit and we went back to full sails for a short while before putting everything away and dropping the hook at a beautiful sand beach.

It was another long upwind sailing day, but we are well within shot of Shelburne now, which is good as the weather had turned into a gale warning for this area tomorrow evening. So we'll make an early start and hopefully be into Shelburne before that system gets to us.

We rowed into the beach and spent a little time on land to relax after the long sail. Got back to the boat and bbq'd a lunenburg sausage we purchased while we were there. I might be extra hungry but this is probably one of the best sausages I've ever had. Nice dinner, and early bed time again, ready for hopefully a good and not too windy sail tomorrow.

Trip: 43 NM, 8 Hours
