Orchid Bay Marina to Red Bay - day 252 to 256

We spent 5 nights at the dock at Orchid Bay Marina on Great Guana Cay. This was a nice break from the constant go of cruising and gave us some time to relax and catch up on work, boat projects, provisioning, etc.

We didn't actually get up to a whole lot on the island. There is a popular place called Nippers which we went out for dinner and drinks at. I think people ferry across to Great Guana Cay to come here. It's a very laid back place, right on beach on the ocean side. Very beautiful spot. We came back again on Sunday when they have a pig roast, but the place was an absolute zoo of people, and being introverts we abandoned those plans at the sights of throngs of people with loud thumping music. We might just be too old for that kind of thing anymore... Dinner on the boat with a glass of wine is much more our style at this advanced age.

After 5 nights we finally decided it was time to cast off the lines and keep moving. We disconnected our shore power, and topped off our water tanks. We awkwardly got our extra long lines off all the too large for us pilings and made it out of the slip. Just a short sail today across the bay to anchor up to wait one more day for better weather to cross Whale Cay Cut. This little section just goes out to the ocean side and then back in, and is required as it's very shallow through the main bank here. It's best done in calmer weather which was forecast for tomorrow so we decided to wait till then.

And so with that we were back on anchor, worrying about weather and depths as we've become accustom to here. The marina was a nice break, but it feels good to be continuing on as well.
